WATA was founded in 2015, and is a chapter of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA). Since our founding, WATA has added five new miles of trail in Little River State Park, added a flow trail called S’Mores to Perry, began managing and grooming trails for winter use, and extended the trail Six Flags for jam packed fun. We’ve also completed major re-route projects on the main climb and Campfire, replacing sections of double track with purpose-built single track to increase the amount of days we can keep the trails open. All of this while maintaining our 15 miles of trail at both Perry Hill and Little River State Park.

Since 2015, we have seen our membership grow from 40 to 1400 individuals and we plan on surpassing that this year.  Perry Hill had close to 20,000 visitors from the fall of 2017 until the end of summer in 2018. Mountain bikers, runners, hikers, dog-walkers, snowshoers and cross country skiers come from all over the Northeast and Canada to visit Perry Hill. After a ride you can find many of these visitors enjoying everything the village of Waterbury has to offer. This is important to WATA. We want to make sure that what we build helps make our local economy and community be more vibrant.

In the coming years, we have some big plans for our trail networks. We will continue to maintain existing trails and build new ones, and our big projects include connecting to the VeloMont Trail – a single-track, multi-purpose trail that will connect Killington to Stowe – and go right through Waterbury. This is a historic legacy project on par with the Long Trail or the Catamount Trail. The impact it could have on the communities that it passes through will be significant.
